Media advertising - Codes and Conventions
Codes and conventions within advertising:
Using a celebrity to sell the product – this creates a well known face for an advert. Usually the celebrity is known within the media for good things. It is important to associate products in the correct light.
Being 'Different' – Using catchy song or images to make you remember the advert can leave people talking about it. It can also make you subliminally want to buy this product when you begin to associate it with everyday images or songs.
Creating a trade mark - "Kids and grownups love them so"
Fear facure skin cream adverts do this alot....if you don't use this he wont love you hair adverts use this as well using guilt and pension skeeps use this and insurance don't leave loved ones without anything
shot styles....close up on face of person caffod or other Charity's use this
creating a episode....BT cencon all did this automaticly you relate this to the product and create a connection to the famiily or people in it

Digi Pack final draft
For our digi pack we decided to try and fit with the stereotypical view that The Beatles were seen to have.
For our front cover we wanted to stay in theme with the video, but also try and create an album cover that looks similar to previous Beatles albums. We felt that we created this well. By using a black background with a moon in the background we felt that this made the boys stand out more, and also was in fitting with not only our music video but also with the genre. We used the font that we used for two reasons, firstly because it allowed the text to be read easy as stood out with the black background, but also because on the 'Please Please Me' album, they used a similar font, and we wanted to be in keeping with the band.
We also wanted to see The Beatles as being 'innocent boys', this is why for the two inside pannels we chose to place images of the band, with the first pannel being them having a laugh with each other, and the second being their faces. We had the idea to create a pannel with the Beatles characters laughing, as again, using the Please Please Me album for inspiration, they did a similar pose. In the 'Please Please Me' album however, the Beatles were in suits. As we wanted to create a modern version of the album we felt it would be more suited for our Digi pack to feature the modern day Beatles to be in stereotypical modern day clothes. we felt that again this enabled us to create a modern view of a stereotypical view that people had of The Beatles.
For our back cover of the album, we decided to involve our music video, by placing our Lucy character on the back. By only using half of her face, it creates a mystical image, which is in fitting with the music video. We changed the colour of her eyes in order for them to stand out more. By doing this we were able to again stay in keeping with the mystical feeling we wanted to create. To make the Digi pack look more authentic we also added our record lable (Fringe Records) and a barcode.
Overall we feel that our digi pack is in fitting with our music video, our advert, the view that society had on The Beatles and also the view that society has on youth today.

Digi Pack Analysis - You Me at Six - Sinners Never Sleep
Digi packs typically consist of a book style paperboard or card stock outer binding. With usually one or more plastic trays inside to old the CD/DVD. Digi packs usually constist of 4- 6 pannels and grew in popularity among record lables and recording artists in the early 2000's and are now commonly used instead of old style CD cases.
For our Digi pack analysis we have chosen to analyse Sinners Never Sleep by You Me At Six. Above are some pictures of the digi pack.
You Me At 6 are seen to be part of the Rock genre, and there digi pack is in keeping with this.
If we begin by looking at the front cover of the album, rather than useing as conventional cover of the band, they have instead used a woman holding a board, stating the artist and album. The colour theme is gray and black, looking old and faded. This shows an element of the gothic genre and showing their darker side, which is reflected by the music.
Along with the front cover, the back cover has been kept simple. The back cover simply states what the songs are on the CD and what is featured on the DVD. The background for the back cover is simply just black with white writting. This makes the text extreamly easy to read, but yet still follows the dark theme.
The inside of the digi back:
The side right pannel is again following the theme of darkness with the use of colours. The image is a long shot of the band and the use of images helps to promote the band. The pannel has an element of secrecy to it, with finger prints in the back ground, telling a story.
The left inside pannel is a mid shot of the band. This again follows the theme of darkness. The contrast between the black and white represents the contrast between good and eveil. This not only helps to promote the band but again is also in theme with the album - 'sinners never sleep'.

Advert
For our advert we have tried to follow the typical codes and conventions. We looked into different Beatles CDs and after creating a digi pack, we wante to create an advert that was in fitting with it.
To go along with the phycadelic genre, we wanted to add blocks of colour to the advert. By using a white background with a gray circle fading out (representing the moon) we were able to create an image that stood out. All beatles album covers feature them, so we felt that for the advert, (and digi pack) we should have an image of our Beatles.
We used the font that we used for our text as it was clear to read, it is also in fitting with the text that the Beatles used for their albums. (we also used this text for our digi pack). Using the black text on the white background meant it is clear for audiences to read, and therefore clear to advertise and promote.
Finally, we placed our record lable at the bottom of the advert, to advertise ourselves. The record lable is slightly bigger than on most adverts, but due to the design, and the facilities we have, we were unable to produce the logo any smaller without it being difficult to read.

Feedback questionaire
Did you enjoy watching out music video?
What did you like about it?
What do you feel we could improve on?
Did you feel the lip syncing worked well?
Did you understand the concept of the music video?
If so, what do you think the concept was?
Rating out of 10, how good do you think the music video was? (1 being the very poor, 10 being amazing)
We are going to show our music video to 150 people throughout the school ranging from year 7s to teachers to find out how they viewed our music video. Once getting our feedback we will put it into a table to see what we need to improve on and what people felt went well. By having a wide range of people view the music video and give feedback, allows us to have a wide range of views for the music video and therefore allow us to take that as a sample of the mass media audience in general.

Risk assessment
Risk assessment - Things to consider when filming.
Whilst filming accidents could happen, for example falling over or technical things could happen for example the camera could break or be damaged. If an accident were to happen with someone we would carry out all suitable safety precautions to make sure the person is okay and well again. If the camera were damaged we understand that we would have to pay for any necessary repairs.
One of the scenes we are filming take place in a wooded area so understandably its easier for people to hurt themselves by falling over or doing things such as walking into trees. Due to unsuitable clothes in the party scenes it may also be easier for people to fall over. We are also using masks in two of our scenes, so it will easier for them to fall over or walk into objects.

Location Shots
For our music video, we wanted to use 3 locations, for our 3 different scenes.
Our first scene is of our Beatles, singing in a 'forest'. For this scene we decided to use 'Bentley Woods' as our location. We felt that this location had a mystical feel to it, which is in fitting with the theme of the video and song. It it also easy for both the characters and ourselves to get to.
For our party scene we have had to ask permission to use our friends birthday venue, which was cherhil village hall. We feel that this venue is perfect for our party scene due to the size, which means we can film a large amount of people at any one time.
Our final scene is of out Lucy character walking down the street. At this point in the music video we are trying to represent her dreaming. We wanted to use this street (white horse way) as it was again easy for both us to film and for our characters to get to. It was also a faily quite street, which meant we would not be interupted by cars and passers by. We also felt that the quietness of the street, and the feild that was next to the path we want to use could help to us to again create a mystical feel.
